Stop ripping out your DMS. You don't have to.
For years the industry has sold dealers one story: your system is the problem, so tear it out and migrate everything to ours. Bet the business on a switchover weekend. Retrain everyone. Hope the VAT setup and the manufacturer links survive.
It's a brutal pitch. And most of the time, it's unnecessary.
Here's the part nobody selling migrations wants to say out loud:
The thing you actually want isn't a new system of record. It's better answers. What's this car worth, with real confidence? Which units are quietly bleeding margin? Where's clean, trustworthy vehicle data when I need it?
None of that requires ripping out the DMS you already trust.
You can add an intelligence layer that runs alongside it. It reads your existing stock, enriches it, and hands back valuations with their sources and inventory insight your DMS was never built to give you - while your team keeps working exactly the way they do today.
Augment first. No migration weekend. No retraining the whole floor. No betting the business to find out if it works. If it doesn't earn its place, you switch it off and you've lost nothing.
Rip-and-replace made sense for the vendor. Augment-first makes sense for you.
Now I'm curious - what's the worst DMS migration horror story you've lived through? The lost data, the downtime, the "go-live" that wasn't? Drop it below. I suspect the comments will be therapy for a lot of people.
